Equestrian Decor to Make You Swoon :: Part 1.

Shannon Habenicht

By Shelly R. Gerritsma, Canter Lane Designs

As horse lovers, the excitement and passion for our four-hooved partners typically doesn't end in the barn.  We also adore adding just the right equestrian themed decorative pieces to our living areas, offices, yards, patios, bathrooms, kitchens, (am I right?).  Equestrian decor pieces are usually personal and meaningful; from the proverbial 'above entry door' lucky horseshoe, to custom portraits of our steeds.  Lucky for us, the marketplace has broadened, and equestrian decor is more accessible than ever.  I don't think our internet founding fathers could have ever foreseen the impact that they would have on the horse world.

Many of my clients are horse people, which often leads me on treasure hunting adventures for unique and often one of a kind pieces that infuse just the right amount of equestrian flair into a space.  And if you think equestrian decorating means stuffy, old, and dark spaces - think again!  From traditional to modern, there is a little something for everyone.

Below are 2 of 5 of my current must-have items; and get that credit card ready because I have also included all the details about where to shop each!

Item No. 1 | Equestrian Themed Wallpaper

One thing I love using in design projects for clients is wallpaper.  But this isn't your Granny's wallpaper!  Modern wall coverings use gentle adhesives that still perform, while making removal easy without wall damage down the road should you change out decor or sell your home.  Wallpaper also comes in a menagerie of price points these days, starting at around $2 a square foot.  Basically, you can add real and dramatic changes to your home without breaking the bank or making permanent changes.
