Join Brooke USA this summer and make a difference with the click of a button. Whether it is with a smartphone or a camera, supporters can win exciting prizes during the charity’s inaugural photo competition, all while raising awareness and funds for the plight of working horses, donkeys and mules. Entries are open until August 19, 2019, World Photography Day.
Brooke USA hopes to foster awareness and involvement among equestrians and photographers through the competition, helping the community understand the hard reality of both working equines and people across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Each submission must fit one of two themes, “Best Portrait of a Horse, Donkey or Mule” or the “Best Action Shot of a Horse, Donkey or Mule.” The photos can either be taken in the wild or during sport, and is eligible so long as the photo has not been published previously or awarded. The photos must also be submitted as either a smartphone or DSLR camera submission and in order to complete the submission, each photo requires a minimum donation of $10 to Brooke USA.
Judges for the competition include Enrique Urdaneta-Alamo and David Erdek, two of the foremost equine photographers in the United States. They are joined by Ron Magill, a Nikon Ambassador, wildlife conservationist and Goodwill Ambassador for Zoo Miami. Brooke USA Ambassadors Olympian Kasey Perry-Glass and International Show Jumper Hannah Selleck will also join the ranks as judges.
“As someone who has seen the work of Brooke USA’s funding first-hand, I am proud to be able to take part as a judge in this inaugural competition,” Perry-Glass stated. “This competition has the potential to raise funds for our current projects, as well as shed light on the mission of Brooke USA for people who may not have been introduced previously. It is a fun and creative outlet that will hopefully engage family, friends and supporters, and I look forward to seeing the submissions and helping to choose the winners.”
On September 3, 2019 Brooke USA will contact the top 12 winners and announce the results on their website BrookeUSA.org and on social media including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The top 12 photos will be featured in the fall issue of photo competition sponsor, Equestrian Living Magazine, and Brooke USA will create and sell its first annual calendar, featuring the top 12 submissions, available for purchase beginning in November 2019.
The first place finisher for the Smartphone or Tablet Category will enjoy a masterclass with acclaimed equine photographer Enrique Urdaneta-Alamo, as well as a photo shoot of the winner and their equine or animal partner. Not available to the general public, this one-to-one photography masterclass is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The winning photo of the DSLR entries will have the opportunity to be printed, matted and custom framed up to 24” x 36”. Brooke USA will also announce a raffle prize in the upcoming weeks for entrants who share their photo(s) with the hashtag #BrookeUSAPhoto and #ClickForChange. The more shares each photo receives, the better the chances to win the raffle. Each share equals one entry.
